About Amical
Amical is a smartphone designed for elderly people with neurocognitive disorders. It offers a 24/7 conversational presence through a classic buttonless phone, thanks to a personalized, warm, and respectful artificial intelligence.
Data protection and compliance
Legal Compliance: Amical complies with Law 25 (Quebec) and the Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and is designed according to the industry’s best security practices, aligned with SOC 2 and ISO 27001 standards, but is not yet officially certified as of today.
Phone Servers:
Secure hosting in Canada (AWS)
Isolated VPC environment
Redundancy across multiple Amazon servers
Full encryption of voice data, transcripts, and identifiers (AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit)
Administrator Portal:

HTTPS requests
No passive listening: No sound is captured when the handset is hung up. Only user-initiated calls are recorded.
Data is kept securely at all times.
Expertise: Our CTO (Chief Technology Officer), Yoann Vanitou, with 20 years of experience in software development, secure cloud, and AI, has designed a robust infrastructure compliant with the best practices.
Data Usage: All calls are recorded when the handset is picked up. These recordings are used exclusively for:
Ensuring the quality and security of the service
Automatically generating summaries accessible via the client interface
Sharing with the residence in case of further verification, precise access logs are maintained.
Improving the service, preventing risks, or contributing to analyses within guided research
Analyses are performed using pseudonymized or aggregated data
Right to be Forgotten: data can be deleted upon simple request from the legal representative within 30 days.
Consent
Amical phones are generally installed in common rooms or in the residents' rooms, depending on the residence's needs.
In Common Room
The AI is generic, without collecting personal data
Consent is integrated into the usage agreement between the residence and Amical.
In Private Room
At the residence's discretion, the AI is personalized for each resident based on their Life Book (biographical information, interests, personal markers), with the written consent of the legal guardian;
At the residence's discretion, the family receives an optional form allowing them to complete or enhance the information provided to the AI.
