50 free phones for research teams around the world

Amical is proud to announce that we are making 50 phones available at no cost to research teams around the world that want to study Amical in their own settings.

Amical is a screenless, buttonless telephone built around a voice-only AI companion. Older adults simply lift the handset and start talking. It is already used in care homes across Quebec by people living with dementia and other cognitive disorders, and it works in more than 80 languages and accents.

Three studies are already underway in Canada with Université Laval, the CIUSSS de l'Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal and the REISD. We are now inviting researchers elsewhere to become some of the first teams to study voice-based generative AI for aging in real-world settings.

    Why this matters

A systematic review published this year found only nine studies of LLM-based conversational agents involving older adults, with a median sample size of just 12 participants.

This is a young field with important questions still unanswered, particularly about how voice AI performs across languages, cultures and cognitive profiles.

    What we provide

We provide the phones, shipping, installation support, staff training and help developing the research protocol based on what we have learned from our Canadian studies.

We do not fund the studies, but we make our AI tools available to support protocol development and grant writing.

If you are a researcher, or you know one who might be interested, write to us at research@amical-ai.com. And if you work at a university, please share this with your colleagues.
